Hi,
My name is Ormand Mack. I am the director of Saint Mary’s Ridge Development
Committee.
I want to tell you a little about
myself. I’m not what you’d call a
real development director. I’m a 68-year
old farmer, welder and sign builder with an eighth grade education, a good
wife of 48 years and eight grown children.
Eight years ago, after a weekday
Mass our pastor asked us if we would consider becoming the custodians of Saint
Mary’s Ridge Parish and School. What
a blessing! We are still custodians,
helping to care physically and financially for 48 students. I also serve on the parish finance council,
so I have a good understanding of our needs.
Although I grew up in another
parish and didn't have the opportunity to attend Saint Mary’s Ridge School,
our family is committed to this school. My
wife Yvonne, her mother and grandfather are all alumnus of Saint Mary’s Ridge
School as are our children. Four of
our grandchildren are students here today.
We have good reason to keep this little place going.
About two years ago Yvonne and
I discussed forming a committee to help find money to help our school and
parish. It is now known as Saint Mary’s Ridge Development Committee. With the help of a few other like-minded folks
we have started what we believe will be fruitful and blessed work. One couple we’ve known for more than 40 years
has always helped Catholic schools and churches, even when their children
were young and they were struggling to get their business started. It sure paid off in a big way for them. And yes, they have helped us recently.
My philosophy is that it is wiser
to ask one million people for $1.00 than it is to ask one person for $1 million.
If everyone who reads this letter offers just a dollar or two we can
achieve our goals! Our work will be blessed and so will those
who support it.
