This is going to be a big celebration. It was in October of 1856 that ten pioneers came to St. Mary’s with their families from Germany, Stommeln, a Rhenish village near Cologne.
They were --- Herman Baus, Mathias Butzler, Mathias Esser, Frederick Gross, Hilarius Karis, Peter Michels, Herman Schreier, John Schreier, Peter Schreier, and Quirin Schreier.
In 1857 other families, the majority also from Stommeln or vicinity arrived at St. Mary’s they were: Christian Bruggen, Herman Flock, John Feilbach, Henry Hemmersbach, Peter Gross, John Gross, Martin Jungferndorf, Hubert Kohlgraf, Anton Neukirchen, Hilarius Rondorf, John Schaaf, Casper Schieffer, Peter Schieffer, Casper Schmitz, Henry Schmitz, Hilarius Schotten, Louis Schotten, John Siebertz, and Herman Wacker.
If anyone out there anywhere in the world is a relative of any of these pioneers I would like to have you contact me by email at smrdd@stmarysridge.org.
